« on: Friday 12 May 06 17:12 BST (UK) »
The Blasket Islands ..na Blascaodaí .. consist of six islands and small rocks off the Kerry coast.

The autobiography "An t-Oileánach" (published in the Irish language in 1929) of Tomás Ó Criomhtháinn who reared ten children on a smallholding on the Blaskets. was translated into English by scholar and translator
Robin Flower who himself spent many summers on the islands.

My husband's grandfather was born on the Great Blasket, his father was a teacher there. I have visited the island and the lovely visitors centre, what a great place to go to!

I camped overnight on the Baskets in 2006, fab place. I live in Kerry but come from Manchester, I read the Book "Twenty years a growing" by Maurice O'Sullivan and just had to go and see where he lived. since then I've read most of the books about the Island.
