Your help is needed again.
« on: Saturday 07 February 04 10:56 GMT (UK) »
I recieved a Wedding Cert this morning.  All the other certs i have the ages are listed both for the bride and groom but on this one there is only one age ( i think it says 17).  Could it be the age of both of them? If it is, then i,m into confusion mode because i,m 12 years out with the groom  :(

I think it states "of age".

Some Certs do have the common "full age" on some Certs. I am not 100% what this means either ~ Can any kind soul enlighten us all?

Warm Regards

Jen  :D

Full age ( i think) meant they could marry without the consent of parents and i always thought that full age was 21.

:D Could "Full age" indeed bring you any closer to the expected age of the groom?.

Unless "of age" means something entirely different.  :D

Hi there Fitty

It does indeed say 'of age'

This means they were both aged 21 years or over - younger than that and they would have had to get permission from parent or guardian in order to marry.

Incidentally prior to 1929, it was legal for:
Boys aged 14 and Girls aged 12
to marry with parent / guardian permission
