Hi Audrey

"Please can anyone tell me how i can finde a marriage of my great grandparents - John Douglas & Jean Irving."

Registration did not become compulsory in Scotland untill 1855 (1837 in England) - but as you believe they married in 1834 (birth of daughter Mary) I think you are going to be unlucky in getting a marriage certificate.

Best bet would be to check the church registers in Kirkpatrick from 1834 backwards for an entry of marriage.

Registers of Births, Marriage and Deaths are at New Register House in Edinborough
www.origins.net
An internet service is available providing a fully searchable index to birth/baptisms and bann/marriages from 1553 - 1854  (fee payable)

Hope that helps you a bit
