Going through some old family papers recently I came across a picture of what I thought at first to be of Michael Tansey (he married Mary Betteley) so I got rather excited.  However, after comparing it with some other photos that I have it turned out to be William Henry Tansey.  He was a builder by trade and then in later years he had a smallholding in Willaston, near Nantwich called (Cheerbrook Poultry Farm)

I've also found various newspaper articles about them.  One of which describes how Michael Tansey assaulted his wife (Bridget) after a drinking session in Crewe.  This was a rather shocking find. :o

Hi jayson
Yes I have seen the article about Michael and his brutality. His poor wife and children!  What terrible lives they had. I would love to see any photos of the Tansey family that you have.

Hi gypsymorth

Michael Tansey sounds like a real horror doesn't he.  Sad that Bridget tried to justify his terrible behaviour towards her.

I'd be more than happy to share what I have with you.  I don't have any family pictures beyond William H Tansey's generation sadly.  I am descended from his sister Ellen Jane Tansey.  She died in London in 1938.  Anyway I'll you my email address.

Yes, Michael's father was definitely Cornelius I have the marriage certificate.  They were married at Macclesfield, Cheshire in 1853.  Bridget's father was John

Thanks Jay

I'm not clear of spelling of Bridget`s surname I.e. Donahue, Donahoe or Donohoe. what does it say on marriage certificate? I tried emailing you but it came back undeliverable!

Hi Lynne

Sorry that you have had difficulties emailing me. Perhaps that's my fault. I've received emails from elsewhere so perhaps I didn't type it out properly initially!

Anyway, not to worry, I'll have another go at passing my details on to you in a personal message.

Re Bridget's surname.  I'll dig out the certificate and get back to on this.  I suppose in the days before compulsory education the spelling to a very large extent depended on the interpretation of whoever was responsible for writing it out to begin with.

From memory I think Michael signed his name while Bridget made her mark.
