« on: Thursday 18 May 06 18:51 BST (UK) »
Anyone researching the Whitelock - Lloyd family of strancally Castle, Ireland?

I've got Percy George Whitelock Lloyd in my family tree. I have a photo of him in army uniform.
House - Brockenhurst, Rockbourne, Newbury, Thatcham 1500-1850's.
O'Toole - Dublin and Newcastles upon Tyne.

Hello Vicky,

Strancally Castle isn't in Co. Cork ... it's in Co. Waterford(*)
Wikipedia says that Strancally Castle was designed by James and George Pain and built for John Kelly around 1830.

William Whitelocke Lloyd, the artist of the Zulu War, sounds as though he might be a suitable candidate to be mentioned in The Dictionary of Irish Biography. I would suggest you email Dr Linde Lunney, Editorial Secretary dib(AT)ucd.ie. to see if she has any information about this family.

Yes he did and yes that is him.
I have the family tree back to about 1500 on that lineage. I also have other families joining it that takes the lineage back to 1200 but that is landed gentry for you they have good records.

I have found out alot about the family in the last year. Even a royal connection.

I'm just wanting to know if anyone else is related in any way to the family who is researching now present day.
House - Brockenhurst, Rockbourne, Newbury, Thatcham 1500-1850's.
O'Toole - Dublin and Newcastles upon Tyne.

Hello

Found this in the British Library Newspaper Archives, Marriages, for 'Whitelock' and 'Lloyd':-

Yorkshire Gazette  29th April 1826
Marriages
"On Thursday, the 13th inst., William Horton Lloyd, Esq., of Bedford Place, to Mary, youngest daughter of George Whitelocke, Esq., of Seymour Place, Portman Square, London.
"

Leeds Mercury  29th April 1826
"Last week, Wm. Horton Lloyd, Esq. of Bedford-place, London, only son of the late Gamaliel Lloyd, Esq. formerly of this town, to Mary, youngest daughter of George Whitelock, Esq. of Seymour-place, Portman-square."
(Sic. Whitelocke spelt Whitelock in original newspaper text)

The Scots Magazine  1st May 1826
"At the house of Leonard Horner, Esq. by the Rev. Sir Henry Moncrieff Wellwood, Bart., William Horton Lloyd, Esq. of Bedford Place, London, to Mary, youngest daughter of George Whitelocke, Esq. of Seymour Place, Portman Square."
