Hi Karen,

Thanks for checking you your mum - but what is a "Naviciate" - before all your suggestions I just presumed it was an office block - just shows.

Hi Keith,

Seems I spelt it wrong, it's Noviciate, basically like a convent or seminary.  I had no idea what my mother was talking about either at first  ;D  she sure surprises me sometimes.

Novitiate, alt. Noviciate, is the period that a novice or prospective member of a religious order who has not yet been admitted to vows has to undergo training in order to be found eligible or qualified for admission.

A Novitiate is also housing exclusively devoted for the needs of novices.

It looks like a fairly new building - hotel  ??? Could your Dad have done some of the decorating Keith?

I'm not sure that a Noviciate is where he'd be  ;)

Do you know how far west he went? It has a bit of the Ontario triangle feel about it - poss London.

Thanks for that Karen - glad you put in the description - spelling did not help  :o

As you say Gadget, I don't think my father would be going inside a building like that - but you never know I am finding more out in the last week about him that I did the previous 60 years!!

I do not know - where, when, how long, with whom - he went to Canada - so that is why strange looking building and statue are important to me!!

Cheers

Keith

Is that water to the left?

And what is that dark blur in the foreground?  It seems oddly man-shaped with what might be a hat on top:  could this be Keith's mysterious father again?

This is starting to remind me of the photographs of Lemony Snicket.  ; )

Keith,

Here are my hubby's comments:

- Bauhaus
- International Style
- pre- and post-war
- very common
- cheap
- not built to last
- flat roof = bad for countries that get lots of snow
- lots in London that were later condemned
- this could be worker housing or an office building
- still many apartment complexes like this in France

Regards,
Josephine

You know Keith - I've been thinking ....

Beth put the idea in my head when she talked about a TB Sanatorium .... and then you mentioned about your Dad being very thin ...... so I started looking for Canadian Sanatoriums and came up with this site - I can't find the exact building - but it seems to me that there are similarities between the buildings - there is a Three Rivers Sanatorium in Quebec that was built in 1928 but I can't find a picture ..... purely speculation of course .......... but I'll keep looking - in the meantime take a look at this and see what you think !
