OWEN/OWENS
« on: Friday 19 May 06 16:25 BST (UK) »
I am searching for a family of Owens who I thought were born in Llandisiliogogo. The children I have found are David 1859, Owen 1859,John 1861,Catherine 1864,Ellen 1866,Thomas 1867,Evan 1869,Jane 1870,Margaret 1873,Daniel 1875 and Elizabeth 1877. The parents were Thomas 1831 and Sarah 1833. The story that has been handed down is that there were five sons who all went to sea.
I have come across five brothers from Llangrannog, David 1859,Owen 1859,Evan 1869,John 1861 and Daniel 1873 who all seemed to be prominent in the shipping world. Companies formed by these brothers were County Shipping Co.,Bont Shipping Co. and Anglo Belgique Shipping Co.
Due to the similarity of names and birthdates I am sure these must be the same family but have been unable to confirm it.
Does anyone have any information on these five that would shed light on it. Were they the sons of a Thomas?
Is Llangrannog close to Llandisiliogogo?
Can anyone get me farther back than Thomas?
This is a dreadful name to research and any help would be more than appreciated! Many thanks in advance.

I also have Owen family in Llangrannog (from the maternal side), I have thought that my ancestor's mother  was perhaps part of this family, although at a much earlier date.

I also haven't been able to ascertain all that much at this point of time, so I would also be interested if someone can shed some light on them.

I don't think that Llandisilogogo is that far away as some of my ancestor's family married and started their family there before moving back to Llangrannog.

A witness at my Sarah Owen's marriage was a James Owen in 1813.

Hi Webby
I think that I can guarantee there are LOTS of Owen and Davies families in the area, as there are all over Wales.
Cheers Dave

While clearing out a cupboard in my mothers house I came across this piece of paper in a hymn book and on the paper was a list of Owens
Owens 1784-1868 aged 84
son Owen Owens 1819-1872
then a list of the Grandchildren
Ann Owens 1844-1865
Samuel Owens January 3 1846 at half past five in the morning = Elizabeth d sept 19 1872 = 2nd Betsy d Sept 29 1889
Margaret Owens 1861-1943 Bodawen Llangrannog = Stephen Rees

David Owens b August 14 1859 -

Thomas Owens b September 28 1856

Evan Owens b December 1850-d June 17 1879

Rachel Owens 1848-1872 December 17 Tuesday age 25=
not sure if these were married due to condition of paper
Daniel Owens d June 15 1878

If these are any connection I shall try to scan and forward

You lucky thing!........fancy finding something so wonderful.

My family certainly didn't leave me any clues whatsoever of the Davies/Owen(s) side.

Because the information pertains to Llangrannog and the Owen family (although not knowing for sure if there is a connection)  I for one would very much like a copy - just in case, and I very much appreciate your offer.

Thank you

Regards

I have tried to post a scanned copy on the forum but the computer informs me it is too large

how can you then receive the information?
