Glad they are of use Mack, more to come.
Funny, as most of them never went back into a Battalion, I thought they were on vacation, or maybe the 1st Mancs decided enough was enough and decided to invade Winchester.

Oh and one other thing Mack, the depot was not where they kept the fighting soldiers, they had two places in Kent, the 5th & 6th Battalion. Maybe Winchester needed some more washers for the officers at Winchester ;D ;D ;D ;D

Aaahhhhhhhh Mack,
Now I see why the mancs wanted to come south. Manchester Regiment formed in 1881 by the linking of the 63rd (West Suffolk) Regiment of Foot and the 96th Regiment of Foot, which became respectively 1st and 2nd battalions of the Regiment.
The 1st were all from Suffolk so making their way south to their roots.

Seriously Andy - why did all these guys go over to the Rifle Brigade ?

My Granddad transfered over there too - was there some kind of incentive offered ? were they the best marksmen - what was it that made them change regiments ?

or was it just prestige ?
