Porter's Place, St Lukes
« on: Thursday 25 May 06 11:54 BST (UK) »
I have an Edward Darwent born at Porter's Place in 1844 to William b Birmingham 1808 ish and Selina nee Taylor, he has two brothers Benjamin and William born '38 and '40 but I can't find the family in the 1841 census under any spelling I can think of.
In smaller places I have solved this problem by looking through the whole village but this is too big an area so can anyone please tell me the census reference for Porter's Place off Whitecross St and I can then see if they are hiding there or nearby.    Please.

Hello, painterlady,

The reason you have not been able to find anything for the Darwent family in Porter Place, St. Lukes, is that the 1841 census for Porter St, Chequer Alley & Whitecross St. are shown as MISSING.

Now isn't that frustrating, only one step up from finding a note saying it has been eaten by rats.

Utters a few words not normally in her vocabulary!! a good reason for not finding them. At least I know now what the problem is and will stop searching for them there. Thanks for the information.
