The attachement we read is in plain text with much linear punctuation.
Southern or Southan [Hereford , Monmouthshire & Glos], Jenkins, Meredith and Morgan [Monmouthshire and Glos.], Murrill, Damary, Damry, Ray, Lawrence [all Middx. & London], Nethway from Kenn or Yatton. Also Riley and Lyons in South Africa and Riley from St. Helena.

OK Amy K - when I open the attachment it is a plain text list. There is no tabular or other form of organisation. there may be the necessity to read it through a special programme that can read GEDCOM files - ask Bob in Berlin.
I'm only reporting what I see.

The file downloaded into FH with no major problems ... quite a few minor "irregularities" but this was more to do with the different version of gedcom.

Re Hackstaple viewing it as a text file ... this is perfectly normal unless you have a gedcom viewer or program set up to accept gedcom files. In my own case I use FH to handle all gedcom files.

Well yes - you can attach GEDcoms to all RootsChat messages - obviously if people just "open" them without some kind of GEDcom viewer of some sort then they will look garbled!
