Looking at this second photo, I realise this is no challenge at all to you experts - it's merely a tear in the photo and not even on the person...  It would be nice to have a 'perfect' picture of Eddie though, being as there's only this one from 1950.

Thanks again to you all,
Chilis

Hi Chilis,
Just reduce the file size to 500kb or slightly less
and the site will accept it no problem. Please also put it
on a new topic not on this one. What software package
are you using for your photo manipulation? We will be
able to guide you if you are in doubt as to what to do.

Thanks, Tomkin
I have to be away from home now for 48 hours, so will pursue this when I get home.  Unfortunately, I am green as far as the mechanics of 'just reduce the size' etc., but will get to grips with it on Thursday.
Again, thanks everyone for your help.

Hi Chilis,
One quick way (which I don't normally approve of)
is to open up the 684kb photo. Click" save as"and give it a new name.
This will mean your original remains. Click O.K. If it saves it automatically
you will find that it has reduced the file size. Some programmes give you a choice of quality. Just alter the slider until the file size is under 500kb and press O.K.

Always remember to give a new name and retain the original "as is" until you learn what it is you are doing.
Cheers,
Tomkin

Once again, thank you Tomkin for advice - it works, I think!
I shall now attach Eddie "3rd try".  As I said, it's not much of a challenge, but it's important to me.

Hi Chilis,
You have given us something to work with, but you have also scanned a
large area of blank space. If after previewing the scan you drag a border around the photo and scan just the photo at say 300d.p.i. to 600 d.p.i. you will eliminate a lot of
file size problems. Anyway we will have a go with this.
Cheers,
Tomkin

I see what I have done now, Tomkin.  Thanks for telling me.  I have the scan setting on A4 having been tyring to write captions/text alongside a photograph in order to place in my file.  I'm learning something every day!

Should I try posting my picture again?
Chilis

Hi Chilis,
Didn't see your latest posting mate. Yes please. At a guess you have
scanned 73 sq. inches of nothingness ( I shall have to see if that is a real word) Also please scan in colour mode!! when you have scanned check the file size is below (just below) 5ook.b.
Why dont you put the text on with your software program.
Can you give an example of what you are trying to do?
I am sure that there are many on here who can give you good advice.
Any way I am still up to the eyeballs in photo's but had a quick go at you
posting. Not happy but will post,
Tomkin
