CROWDER'S Sheffield
« on: Friday 22 October 04 07:21 BST (UK) »
Who do i believe....the 1891 census that says John Hy Crowder b.1861 or my batty old great grandma who had it written down as John Thomas Crowder b.1859?

He was married to Clara Lyalls which fits also their first child. So i'm pretty confident its the same man.

I was thinking maybe 1 explanation was, he didn't like being a 'John Thomas' lol and he didn't like the fact his wife was 2 years older than him so he changed it.

Could they do that does anybody know?

my Hudsons are still in Derbyshire but i'll let you know.

I found a marriage certificate for John Thomas CROWDER and Clara LYALLS. Its definately the same man down as Thomas HY CROWDER in the 1891 census.
Maybe it was just a case of him not wanting to be a John Thomas.

Hi Yorkshirelass

Are you doing a One Name Study on the entire family name or are you just after information on these particular individuals?  :)

If the latter is the case I will gladly move the post for you to a more relevant board which may help to generate a response for you.   Please let me have any information on possible locations (County etc.) so I can place it in the right board.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Ticker
