Hi, and a special hello to Lynn,
A rellie of mine emigrated to the USA on the Carpathia in 1916, so I was interested to read that the ship was one of those that picked up survivors from the Titanic . Was  Captain Rostron the captain in 1916, do you know?

Not the Titanic, but I did have one on the Lucitainia (not sure if I've spelt that correctly)

He was a steward. He was very ill with flu just before it was due to sail and his mother tried to get him to stay at home, but he said he couldn't afford to miss the tips.

mc8, it was me.
My wife's Great Great uncle is Sidney Daniels.  He was a third class steward who survived the sinking by launching lifeboat No13 (although he had to give his place up for passengers).

A few links on him here:
http://www.southampton.gov.uk/s-leisure/artsheritage/history/titanic

Sidney died in 1983, and was the last surviving crewmember.
Alas, we never met - but I do have a voice recording of him recounting how he left the Titanic.

Here he is:

Morris - Liverpool
Williams - Liverpool
Hill - Gloucester
Walker - London
Nelson - Liverpool
Martin - Gloucester
Simcock - Liverpool

A family story goes that an acestor had a ticket to sail on Titanic but never actually sailed.

He was persuaded to go back home and marry his girlfriend (who was at the time pregnant!!)

I realize this could just be a "family story" but does anyone know how I could find out if it's true? Is there a list of those who bought tickets rather than those who sailed?

Thanks
