Library help please

Hi all,

I posted this in October,2005 and December 2005, with no response, so I thought that I would post it just once more for luck.


I am researching James Fort. In 1839 he applied to come to Australia under the Immigrant Labourers scheme and at the time he applied he stated he was in Guernsey.

Could SKS please have a look at the book of the Constables Record of the Parish of St.Peter Port 1828 -1852 plus the Strangers index?

He married Harriet Payne in Devon in 1835 and all Oz certificates state he was born Devon.

However,half of the family still insist he was born in Guernsey because that was where he was when he applied to come here.

I have checked the book Guernsey Emigrants to Australia 1828 - 1899 and his name does not appear. I do not have his parents names.

As the film of the Constables record is not available in Oz, I would really appreciate help on this, maybe we can settle the family argument for once and for all.
