I have a William ADAMS in Headingley Cum Burley on 1881 Census and his occupation is shown as Pattern Maker (E&M). Can anyone explain what this means please?

Hi there
d
Yes Omskirk is correct. The E&M stands for electrical and mechanical. It is highly likely that your ancestor worked at the
Kirkstall Forge......Where my grand father and his brother worked.
