Look Up for DUFFILL in Cleobury
« on: Tuesday 13 June 06 18:49 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the family of Edward John Duffill who was born about 1835 in Cleobury (Mortimer), Shrops. His father was Edward Duffill, a tailor, according to Edward John's marriage certificate that was dated 22 May 1859, in Birmingham,  his wife was Sophia Davis from Islington.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks Mike Newnham.

Hi Mike,

This is the narest I see in 1851
HO107/2038 113 24
Kidderminster, Worcestershire
Front Queen Street

Ann Broadfield, head, wid, 37, Laundress, b. Worcester
Edward Duffil, son, 17, Rope Spinner, b. Salop Cleobury

I'm hoping to find something more conclusive in 1841  :P

Now up to you for 1841, Lloydy  ;D  ;D

The nearest I get is an Edward Duffield age 8, Pauper, at Quatt Jarvis Union School. Not very convinced about him.

The IGI has this extracted marriage:
EDWARD DUFFILL
ANN BESWICK
10 JUL 1832   Kidderminster, Worcester

May come in handy later (hopefully)

Age is a bit out for the pupil age 12 isn't it?   Though nothing would surprise me!  In 1861 Edward Duffield appears with wife Sophia - tho I would question the transcription.  In 1871 he has two kids.

Hi Everyone,
Many thanks for your efforts to find the family of Edward Duffill, who is my Gt Gt Grandfather by the way.
My answers and/or commnets are as follows:

Jan/Lloydy   So far I have not located Edward Duffill anywhere.
I have also not been able to find the family of Edward John Duffill, my Gt Grandfather, in the 1861 census. I only have access to the 1861, 1881, 1891 and 1901 census through the internet.

Tati       The Edward Duffill, son, 17, b Cleobury, could be my Edward John Duffill but I cannot see where Ann Broadfield might fit in. The wedding certificate for Edward John Duffill shows that his father was Edward Dullill, a tailor. There was no indication that Edward, the father, wasdead at the time of the wedding.

Andrea/Sillgen     See the comments above.
I have details of Edward John Duffill and family from the 1881 and 1891 census.
Edward Duffield and Sophia could be a transcription error but at the time of the 1861 census there should also be one child, Ann Elizabeth who would have been just over one year old.
In the 1871 census there should have been five children, Ann 11, Edward 10, Robert 6, Henry 4 and George of about four months.

Thank you all once again for trying to locate my elusive relations.
Mike

Hi Mike,

I have no idea whether the 1851 Edward son of Ann is yours but please be aware that the marriage cert wouldn't necessarily state 'deceased' for the father even if he was.

Who were the marriage witnesses?

Tanja  :)
