Child Death
« on: Sunday 18 June 06 18:06 BST (UK) »
Could somebody please help with this one?

If a child dies at birth or is still born what kind of certificate is issued if any and does there need to be an inquest?

Try this previous thread for still births

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,118082.0.html

If a child lived even if only for a few minutes it was born live so a standard birth certificate and a subsequent death certificate would be issued. An inquest would only occur if the death was not from natural causes. A stillbirth was not born live so as far as certificates are concerned neither has a birth certificate or a death certificate. From 1927 onwards a stillbirth certificate was issued, but these certificates do not appear on the GRO civil registration index.

Many thanks for that Valda. I will check out that thread.

My cousin mentioned that one of our aunts was a twin and that he had died. I ahve tried to find either a birth or death certificate but no joy. I guess he must have been still born.

Thanks again

Dave
