We think it was sometime in the fourties!
There was other houses we think which burned down in Lovedone lane, we think the lane is now renamed.
If you have any information we would be very greatful :)
Kind regards Chris

Should this subject be posted on the Hampshire thread?  There is still a Lovedon Lane, Kings Worthy, just outside Winchester.

Yes this should definitely be under Hampshire !  You are referring to Kingsworthy near Winchester in Hampshire.
The Hollies was the property on Stoke Charity Road (later renamed Lovedon Lane) which my great grandparents owned and were living in at the time of the fire.  They were Mr & Mrs Maddocks and lived there with Mrs Maddocks' brother Edward (Ned) Steele.
According to my mother, who was a child at the time, the property burned down sometime between 1945 and 1947.  It was reported in a Winchester newspaper at the time (I would love to find a copy of the article) - there was a photograph of Ned sifting through the rubble for a box that they kept their money in (they didn't trust the banks back then!!).
My mothers family helped their relatives build another bungalow on the same site one summer after the fire.
If anyone has any further information I would love to hear !
And how do I also link this to the Hampshire discussion site - I am new to all this !?
