Hi,

Is it possible that 14 Inverkip Street was the Greenock Royal Hospital? (now demolished)

Admittedly, it was the casualty department that was entered from Inverkip Street, while the main entrance was round the corner in Duncan Street.  There was also a separate maternity hospital about 1˝ miles away.

Hi,

Just seen this post.  My gt Grandad also died at 14 Inverkip Road in 1924, it would make sense that it was the hospital.

the front entrance to the hospital was 2 Duncan street.  There was a side door entrance on Inverkip Street.

Inverkip Road was where the old assylum/ poorhouse was and what is now known as Ravenscraig Hospital.

apparently there were records found dating back to 1855. These were sent to the Mitchell library ( should have sent them to the Watt library -  JMO -

Hi Cranstone,

Visiting relatives in Gourock, so I popped into the Watt Library and asked this question, and it had been asked before.  The lovely Betty explained to me that 14 Inverkip Road was the Poorhouse hospital which was attached to the asylum and Poorhouse, so it cleares up one or two things  ;D for us.
