Where to now?
« on: Monday 25 October 04 18:47 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone.
With the help of rootschat and family certs I have managed to go back to 1825, does that mean I`ve to get of my bottom and start visiting record centers etc, or are there further online means to continue my quest.  K.  ( London area )

Try the IGI first www.familysearch.org

You should still check any record you find against the Parish register but you can do that at your nearest LDS family history centre if you can't travel

There is also familyhistoryonline

Read the helpful tips at the start of the begginers section.

Thanks sylvia. I tried familysearch.org, which was brilliant for the 1881 census, but couldn`t get any earlier info from it.(perhaps I`m missing something) also would the L D S centre be able to give me early info. I`m sorry to be asking silly questions, but I`m quite new to this hobby,is it a hobby? I`m stuck at my G Grandfather born 1825 in bethnal green,so how can I find his parents so`s I can continue. Thanks again.  K.

Is it Thomas Beasley you are looking for?  I have got lost with your posts.

There is one on the IGI born St Leonards Shoreditch in 1824.  Also one born 1829. You can do a parent search to see if there were any siblings.  You can ask for a census search of the parents.  You can look for the parents marriage and check out the Parish register for that.  It is possible to get back further but is more difficult with London people as they could come from anywhere.

You can get the Parish register on film at the LDS family history centre.

Good luck

Hi Sylviaann. Yes it is thomas beasley born 1824/25. and st leonards would make sense. does that mean I could read details at my nearest LDS centre, and would birth details include parents names. Ta K.

Have you looked at the IGI www.familysearch.org
It gives parents names but it would be best to check the original register which could possibly give the mother maiden name.  Some registers give addresses and occupation.  You wpould be able to find siblings.  You can order a film of the original registers at your local LDS centre

Use the IGI online first to do as much as possible, then go to look at the film of the original
