where to go after IGI?
« on: Sunday 25 June 06 11:15 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone, I have all my lines back to the mid to late 1700s now - I went from 1901-81-71-61-51-41-IGI on familysearch and then worked from marriage to birth to marriage to birth etc (all without moving from my computer!)  but info on IGI seems to dry up if you try to go any further back than 1770 or so...what do I do next?
Thanks
Alison

One site that can be useful depending on which counties you are talking about is familyhistoryonline.org

There transcribed are lots of different types of records but as I say it depends on which county you are looking at, as to how many records they have on there.

Also local record offices are useful for going further back.

Hi the counties I'm looking for are Nottinghamshire, Lancashire, Worcestershire and west riding yorkshire - are they good on that site?

Hi Steve

Not very good for Hampshire, just 1851 and 1891 census records, IOW 1891 census but the National Burial Index for hampshire has 707,000 odd records for 339 places dated from 1400 to 1863.

My understanding is that local history societies transcribe their local records and post on this site so it depends on how active the local group is.

Sussex thankfully is really good!  Other counties are patchy.
