I just found this sight and I'm just beginning to research my father's family. My grandfather, Patrick McDaid - changed to Patrick McDade, came to America and his brothers went to England. His parents were William and Rose McDaid. I believe he is part of the family you are researching.

My gGrandfather Denis McDaid of Middle Illies was a brother to your William McDaid. Denis was born in 1872 and married Annie McDaid of Meendacallaigh Illies. Denis and Annie lived in the Middle Illies all of their lives where they raised a family of twelve.

Hello Illibarth,
I'm just wondering what nickname your ggrandfather's family go by. My ggrandfather Domnick McDaid are the 'Folly McDaids' . We don't appear to have a William born around that time ..... yet!!! Margaret

Hello again Illibrath, I have just noticed that there is indeed a William born 4th Feb 1874. However he married Ellen McDaid and had 7children. Ellen died in 1906 , and William married  again to Bridget. They had one child together who sadly died.  Don't know if this fits in with you?

Meg McDaid Canny,
The William McDaid I was referring to is the William who married Rose Kelly.  They are the couple that Mfisher was referring to and they are also the couple Maidmarion opened this lengthy thread with in 2006.

I am researching my McDade line -- Daniel McDade was born in Ireland approximately 1836 to James McDade and Margaret (or Mary) McGunnigall.  If anyone has information about this line, I would greatly appreciate it.  Absent that, I would like to connect with other McDade / McDaid / McDevitt / Devitt families to compare Y-DNA results.  Recent results indicate the area near Buncrana may be the ancestral location, but would like to compare results with those with documented ties (or still living in) this area.  Thanks so much for any assistance you can provide.
