William Slack and Cordelia Roberts
« on: Tuesday 10 February 04 13:33 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help with my family research please?
I have an early relative, Cordelia Roberts, christened in Rock, Worcestershire in 1800, then nothing until her marriage to William Slack, registered in Sep 1842 in Belper, Derbyshire. I have the death of a William Slack registered in Dec 1845 in Belper, which I presume may be him, but nothing else at all for her.
If you have access to census or other records, could you please spare the time to see if you can find her, before marriage or widowed or otherwise later. I don't even know if they had any children. I think she must have lived to a fairly old age as she is mentioned in family notes as a formidable old lady in black bombazine, but I can't find her in Leicestershire where the rest of the family ended up.
Many thanks if you can help!

William & Cordelia were actually married at Wirksworth, Derbyshire on the 4th August 1842, his Father is Christopher.

Cordelia is on 1851 Census living with Husband.

Cordelia is on 1871 Census living with Father in Law.

Try www.wirksworth.org.uk

This is a wonderful web page with church registers and census.
Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

The Christopher in the 1871 census was Cordelia's stepson, William's son by his first wife. William's father had died in 1838.

William Slack was one of my ancestors' family - my grandfather came from Brassington. I have researched the family and published a history, beginning in 1700 -"Brassington Forebears 1700-1900", price £3. Let me know if you would like me to send you a copy.
I am sorry my email is not working
