1851 Gelligaer census - Complete
« on: Wednesday 05 July 06 10:46 BST (UK) »
Hi chaps

Does anyone out there have access to the FULL 1851 census for Gelligaer? I'm looking for a family by the name of RICHARDS who may possibly be in the village of Pantywaun, near Dowlais Top: husband and wife John and Martha and children John, Mary and Jenkin.

Any hopes?

Mike T  ???

Hi

From a reply to one of my other topics, it seems as if the Ancestry 1851 Gelligaer census starts at enumeration district 3; were there, in fact, districts 1 & 2?

Anyway, I don't have an age for John Richards in 1861, but Martha is aged 42, son John 17, Mary 14, Jenkin 12 and three younger children, Thomas 7, Sarah 5 and Rhoda 2. In 1871, John is shown as 62, Martha 50, with the three younger children, Thomas 18, Sarah 15 and Rhoda 13.

Thanks for your help once again

Mike T  ;D

Nice work, Rhys, as always! Everything looks OK. The only thing that was worrying me was the discrepancy in John's age on the 1871 census...........by about a decade! However, I think I've now possibly located John and Martha, both aged 62, on the 1881 Gelligaer census, living at 35 Cross Keys. Looks likely, therefore, that the age of 62 detailed for him in 1871 could possibly have been a mis-transcription?

Regards

Hi
I have looked at the 1871 image and John appears to be aged 52 not 62
