What does this mean please?
« on: Wednesday 05 July 06 19:18 BST (UK) »
Hi, saw this in a marriage entry and was wondering if anybody could please tell me what it meant, late of the excise (in relation to the groom being late of the excise).

Very grateful for any help anybody can give me.

Thanks

Anna

I imagine it refers to him working for some taxation office, as in Customs & Excise? The 'of late bit' would just mean lately. Could be wrong but that's how i'd understand it.

If you look at exciseman on this old occupations site he is a taxman
