Hello Tinkerbell

I too am trying to identify which Sarah Chapman (my G3 grandmother) married Sam.
Who are you?
(Just in case ...Yes, I believe in fairies.)

Best wishes - Peter Barsby

hello Peter, yes it certainly has been a very long time since I have been into my messages, I note you posted your message in July.
Where abouts is your sarah chapman from as I have a few Sarah's without a husband.

Kind regards,
Tinerkbell.

Hello Tinkerbell

Yes, my Sam 'n Sarah are definitely yours too. I have them marrying in Barrow 15 Apr 1796 (PR seen) with witnesses Joice (sic) Barsby and Thomas Bromley. Joice is Sam's older sister.
Sarah continued to run the Royal Oak pub (now demolished) after Sam's death in 1847 until she died in 1861 and their son Charles took over. She died early in the year before the census.
Sadly, the marriage entry in the PR does not give Sarah's parents or her parish. The 1851 census gives her age as 73 born in Barrow so born ~1778. I have only scanned these registers and have not identified her parentage so any help would be much appreciated.
Sam 'n Sarah's son Thomas and his wife Ann emigrated to France to St Pierre lès Calais where they joined the English lacemaking community. Their youngest son William was my great grandfather. The family returned to England after the lacemakers strike of 1901.

Who are you?

Best wishes - Peter

I did a quick look at www.leicestershirevillages.com/barrowuponsoar  and i think I found your smauel when he died in 1847. there are more barsby's listed as well, just click on family history then where it says burial records and then click on where it  says 1813-1891 in the b section and you will find your barsby's.
good luck

Hello

Many thanks for the tip that Barrow burials are now on line at the website you mentioned. In fact I have all these Barsbys because they're all related but the site provides a useful cross check on my notes - usually illegible!

Best wishes - Peter

Hi Tinkerbell,
I am also interested in Samuel Barsby & Sarah Chapman.
Did you get the copy of their marriage presumably on April 15th, 1796 ?

I have almost the same Barsby tree than Peter Barsby but on the French side.

Samuel Barsby is level 5 for me.

Please, tell me if you have any news/details of Peter Barsby. He is the Barsby gourou. Unfortunately, I could not attend his big family meeting in Calais a few decades ago.

Your French cousin

Hi again Tinkerbell.

Sorry I did not contact you directly.
I have to pay some tribute (i.e. at least a couple of mails to forums) to be authorized to directly mail.
