COMPLETED........1841-1861 Census Lookups please JACKSON family
« on: Saturday 15 July 06 13:34 BST (UK) »
Dear Rootschatters,-

Hi there.  I'm trying to find a 46 year old Joseph JACKSON (born Durham 1795) on the 1841 Census.  His wife was Margery (born Boggle Hole 1794).  I only know of one child born to this couple: Robinson JACKSON born 1817 Brancepeth, Durham.

More info on Robinson JACKSON:
+Married abt 1841 (1) Jane WILSON born 1824 Middlesex;
+Married (2) Ann Charlotte BODLE (born 1823 London) on 15/11/1848 at Camberwell, Surrey.

I have two children born to Robinson JACKSON and Jane WILSON, but can't confirm that the 2nd child's mother is Jane or actually Ann.

1.Charles Robert JACKSON born 13 June 1842 Stockport, Cheshire
2.Elizabeth JACKSON born 1848 Kent, England.

I believe that 1st wife Margery could have died c1848 {in childbirth even}.

It is also known to me that Robinson JACKSON and family emigrated to Australia and settled in Victoria.  I'm following the ancestral line of Charles Robert JACKSON and his wife Hannah DAVIS, and their 10 children.

Can anyone assist please?

All information graciously received.  Thank you.

Alison from sunny Queensland, Australia.  ;)

Hi Alison

There is another brother to your Robinson, his name is Jacob, he was born in Durham around 1819, to Joseph Jackson and Margery Robinson.

Dear Catherine, Hi there.  Thank you so much for your quick response.  I didn't expect that!  Ok, two questions.  1.What is a public house bat man?  Was that a "bouncer'' in those days?  2.Was Robinson JACKSON born at Amwell or just worked there?

Dear Genechaser, G'day.  Thank you so much for finding a sibling of Robinson.  This makes me feel like I'm gathering up the lost strays.

Good on you guys...

Alison.

I think it should say bar-man, although the "stick" on the "r" is long......(if you pm me your email address, I can send you a copy of the image)

It says "N" for not born in county, so no he wasnt there

Catherine  :)

Dear Catherine, thanks for taking the time with this one.  Don't worry about sending me the image, 'tis fine.  And the IGI has him born at Brancepeth, County Durham.

Q.Does such a place exist still?

Al downunder.

Just checked multimap.com, yes Brancepeth does still exist, its on the A690 between Willington and Brandon (to the South West of Durham)
