Phew!

The 1901 census is the same Samuel Breeze as
the Samuel Bruze on the IGI, I am certain about that,
there are too many similarities.
As for the relationship between your Bruce's I was
never convinced about that for some reason. Hence the
fact I wasn't sure whether you wanted me to post it?

I looked on the 1891 (Wales) because of the age of
Cassy, nothing that I could find - or in England either
for that matter.

You are right, it is a puzzle  :-\

Hi Sue,

I am wondering whether Eliza was Samuel's second
wife and visa versa.
That was my first thought when I saw the census and the IGI.

On the IGI the father of Eliza Jones was a William Evans,
that suggests that Samuel wasn't Eliza's first husband.
On the 1901 the name of Samuel's mother in law was Mary
Evans.

At a guess only Lily belonged to the couple. There is an
8 year gap between Christopher and Lily.

I'll have a look again to see if I can find a death for
Samuels first wife.

Pels :)

Here we go again:

1881 census, RG11/4896 District 24, page 50

Stockton, 38, Hill Street.

Samuel Bresse head, mar, 32, Puddler, b. Dur., Witton Park
Mary A, wife, m. 30, b. Wales
Jane, dau., 3, b. Stockton
Ann Williams, serv. unm. 60, Domestic Servant Ind., b. Wales

In another life you would wonder why I think this ties
in? I just do..  ..  .. Why Samuel's place of birth is now Witton
Park I don't know! I think it is the occupation that keeps
swinging it - same one everytime so far!

Pels  :)

Forgot to mention the other 5 boarders in the house! As far
as I can see none of their names even begin with a B so they can ruled out!

Hi Sue,

I think we are going to have to assume that this
Samuel doesn't belong to you.
I've tried everything to try and bring him into your fold,
but nothing!

The batch numbers on the IGI are transcribed into
parishes and dates not families. I think Samuel really was called Breeze or an equivalent name and it is the IGI at
fault for the transcription in 1899!

Sue,

It is a shame really I had grown quite attached to
Samuel and all his many names!
If any one out there would like to adopt him for
their very own ..  .. I now know quite a lot about his
life and times!!
