Cape Town Mayor - Hartley

Hi all!

A distant relative has recently told me that another distant relative was a mayor of Cape Town. Can anyone suggest how I would find out if this is true? I tried to Google for it but no luck!

His name was Alfred Hartley, born c 1875 in Chislehurst, Kent. I have him in the 1901 UK Census, so he was still in the UK then. I have no other information after that.

I know this is a long shot, any help would be very much appreciated!
