Hi

I have just joined this site and looking to find my relatives in wiltshire area. My great Gran married around (1894) a shergold who had the nickname of donut. they had three kids Fanny Agnes (1896), Florence and Anne? ( I think) and lived in Urchfont as far I was told a few years ago.

Any information would be great.

Hi Vicki,

I am interested in any feedback you or other contributors may have re following tree info I have as there are a quite a number of Shergold descendants in Tasmania, Australia also trying to verify info....

My lineage is as follows:
John b.1690 & Elizabeth Pottecary
Daniel b.1736 & Jane Whicher
William b.1764 & Sarah Lush
Daniel b.1795 & Eliza Whatley
Sarah b.1843/44 who emigrated as an 18 y.o. servant girl to Tasmania on "Isle of the South" and whom I believe married James Stock in 1861, Brighton Tasmania. Sarah's death certificate gives her birthplace as England.

There is quite some discussion amongst researchers here as to exactly which Sarah Shergold married James Stock as there are 2 Sarah Shergolds (with different dates of birth), the "second" had parents John Shergold (swing rioter, convict) and mother  Elizabeth Taylor (also convict) and a brother Emmanuel born Launceston, Tasmania in 1847. No one seems to have been able to find any record of John Shergold's death after he left Tasmania for Victoria.

Keen to hear any thoughts!

cheers,
Denise

I haven't yet got confirmation for any of this yet, but in the course of researching my Maslen ancestors and the women who married into the family, I have a note of some very early Shergolds, namely Edith (born circa 1640) and her father John (born circa 1620?), mother unknown and birthplace possibly Bishop's Cannings. Edith married a Michael Cooke in about 1662 according the user submitted records on Family Search, but I don't know their accuracy.

I'd be interested in the identity of Edith's mother and precise dates, if anyone knows more of this branch :) Doubtless they're related to the Urchfont line somewhere, somehow.
I am interested in finding out more about these families:

Branthwayt(e): Thrapston, Northamptonshire
Branwhite: Suffolk and Essex
Flude: London
Godfrey: Hertfordshire and Romford, Essex
Gregory: Derbyshire and Shoreditch, London
Lowen: Epping in Essex
Matty: Tewkesbury  in Glucestershire and Essex
Mills; Hackney, London
Monro: Berwickshire, Hertfordshire, London
Oliver: from Essex
Sadler: Shoreditch and Hackney
Shorten: Belchamp Walter, Essex
Tickell: recorded in Shoreditch

Hi,

Attached is part of my families tree from my mother Doreen back.  I have just joined the chat and have already expanded the tree from what Logdore said.  My children's family tree is over 1000 names and goes back through my wife to the Dalasses in Scotland and back to Pepin in 714.  No, I'm not kidding so am trying to develop my side a bit.

Any ideas?

Hi Vicki,

My wife is descended from Grace Shergold, the wife of Robert Down, born Great Wishford in 1749.

I believe that her parents were John Shergold and Grace.

Any connection with your family?

Regards

David

Hi Jean,

Thanks for replying. :)

Actually I was quoting David.  My name is Julian.  I wonder if you missed the attachment I made that has a chart of my mothers line going back to Christopher Down and Joanne Barter, so we are related.  My mother was born in Dibden Purlieu and we still have the family house.  I visit from Bristol regularly and on one occasion on route through Hale bought a Landrover.  I am now aware of Hale's relationship to the families.

Working from my mothers chart, she has Chris and Jo marrying in 23/1/1631

See my previous for the chart.

Hi Jean,

Thanks for getting back.  The PDF file shows the Down and Hayward lines up to my mother Doreen as far as she could take it.  I would be interested to be able to extend it if I can.  It seems to me that we can trace our tree back to a small area either side of Salisbury, whereas my wife's tree expands across countries.
