Hi, I am a decendant of John Shergold who was sent to Tasmania due to his involvement in the 1830 Wiltshire swing riots. He had a son Emmanual (my Great grandfather) who had a daughter Gertrude Shergold. I have traced the line back beyond Robert Shergold 1645 & Mary Rivers of Great Wishford Wiltshire. John left Tasmania to go ? and died ?
Would love to hear of anything re this family.
Thanks, Kerry

Hello Kerry,My Ann Shergold is possibly the same family as your John Shergold sent to Tasmania, from Great Wishford.Salisbury,Wiltshire.
My Ann b 1870 is actually the mother of my fathers first wife,a Chalke who died in 1936 at South Newton, without any issue.  [as you probably guess I am of a certain age.]
Unfortunately do not have any earlier information about this Shergold family.
Good luck with your research,Brionne.

i would like to ask a question here on the Shergold line of Joseph Shergold & Ann of Stapleford....  where is the christening that suggests he is connected to the wishford line?  I have also looked at the convicts of this line and the thomas/clara of Newcastle etc......  so could someone enlighten me on how where that proof is hidden please? thankyou......    my connection is also somewhat of the wishford line before it moves off into Devizes, with parts elsewhere........

I am researching for my husband whose grandmother was Lilian Rosaline Fanny Shergold born on 31 Dec 1899 at 1 Layham Cottages, Dorset Road, Lambeth.  She married Reginald Victor Fearnhead on 1 April 1921 in Wilton Parish Church.  Her father was Richard Reginald Shergold who married Matilda Fanny Ford.  He died at 27 Water, Ditchampton and Matilda died at 8 Jubilee Terrace, Ditchampton.  Does anybody know if there are any graves around Wilton for the family?  Is there any information on the children of Lilian and Reginald - Raymond Reginald, Alan Nigel, Nora Kathleen, Terence Anthony or Colin?

just a notation here.....    john shergold in tasmania has an interesting time in tasmania but his overseer Atkinson has an even more colourful time........    some convicts rob him on his farm and cause other grief... apparently he was a total brute........    but the Shergies survive..... :)
