William Henry Hawke HIGMAN
« on: Saturday 05 August 06 12:23 BST (UK) »
He was b. circa 1864.  He married Annie Ball in Bedford in 1885.  They had 4 children - Henry (Harry) b. 1888 Bedford, BEDS, Hilda b. 1892 Malta, Reginald b. 1896 Malta and Jessie b. 1898 Cork, Ireland.  I suspect he may have been in the army but would like to try and verify that.

Audrey

I tried chasing up the possible Army link on the UK National Archives site...no HIGMAN listed for the Army ...many seamen HIGMANs 'though... all from Cornwall & Devon.

Name  Higman, William Henry Official Number:  F26735 26 August 1880 ADM 188/613
Place of Birth:  Plymouth, Devon

doubt if he is your man - as he is not Cornish though..

Bedfordshire: Worker [Flitton]; Ames [Kempston]; Manton [Kempston]; Morris [?]; Valentine [Kempston]; Two & Osborn [Cranfield]

Herfordshire and West London: Brown [Kent in early 19th C]; Blackwell.
McCarthy [Clonakilty, County Cork - searching for needles in the haystack!] and LOSTY [Dublin]

Hi Audrey69

I don't know if you're still on this forum. I have just found William in my husband's tree. He was in the Royal Engineers 21/8/1882 - 10/9/1902 when he was discharged in Cape Town. This is from his army sign up papers available on A*y. Unlike some army records it does not give details of his dependants, however some of the dates on his medical records tie in with the dates/ places you have for his childrens' births.
Details of his probate are also available dod 20/8/1932, Bedfordhe left £264 17s to his widow Anne.

hope this helps
