Kettlety's of Bradford Upon Avon
« on: Monday 01 November 04 15:37 GMT (UK) »
Any Kettlety's out there ?  Extremely difficult finding this family despite a rare name.  I have an Albert Kettlety married to an Elizabeth Prescott both born around 1882 in Avon, Wilts or Worcs.

Any info at all would be very much appreciated.

Hi Roz

Have you looked at the 1901 Census. There is an Albert aged 19
born:Worcestershire Claines County:Worcestershire Civil parish:North Claines Coach Maker

Ada - aged 10 - same details (except the occupation)
Elizabeth aged 44 (born Worcestershire Rowe)
Henry 14 - office Boy

I didn't find a husband for Elizabeth - may have missed him or she may be a widow.

Found these two families in the 1891 census:

Kettlety, Albert 8 Bath, Somerset Son  Twerton  Somerset
Kettlety, Edith 3 Twerton, Somerset Daughter  Twerton  Somerset
Kettlety, George 10 Bath, Somerset Son  Twerton  Somerset
Kettlety, Louisa 34 Lambeth, London Wife  Twerton  Somerset
Kettlety, Louisa 14 Bath, Somerset Daughter  Twerton  Somerset
Kettlety, Mabel 1 Twerton, Somerset Daughter  Twerton  Somerset
Kettlety, William 37 Bradford, Wiltshire Head  Twerton  Somerset
Kettlety, William 11 Bath, Somerset Son  Twerton  Somerset

RG12/1929 Folio 71 Page 13
Twerton

Kettlety , Albert 9 Claines, Worcestershire Son  North Claines  Worcestershire
Kettlety , Elizth 35 Church Lench, Worcestershire Wife  North Claines  Worcestershire
Kettlety , Ellen 7 Claines, Worcestershire Daughter  North Claines  Worcestershire
Kettlety , Harry 4 Claines, Worcestershire Son  North Claines  Worcestershire
Kettlety , Kata 10.12 Claines, Worcestershire Daughter  North Claines  Worcestershire
Kettlety , Worthy (?) 42 Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire Head  North Claines Worcestershire

RG12/2341 Folio 87 Page 4
Claines

There's 25 Wiltshire Kettletys in the 1871 census, no Alberts or Berts but one 'Obed' Kettlety aged 2 of Bradford. Looking at the image it looks like it could say Albert though it's hard to tell. All the other names in that family are fairly standard Victorian names so I'd be surprised if they suddenly decided to go for something unusual, though it's always a possibility of course.

This is the family anyway:

Eliza Kettlety 12  Bradford, Wiltshire, England Daughter  Bradford  Wiltshire
Frank Kettlety 10  Bradford, Wiltshire, England Son  Bradford  Wiltshire
Frederick Kettlety 8  Bradford, Wiltshire, England Son  Bradford  Wiltshire
George Kettlety 15  Bradford, Wiltshire, England Son  Bradford  Wiltshire
Harriet Kettlety 46  Bradford, Wiltshire, England Wife  Bradford  Wiltshire
James Kettlety 58  Bradford, Wiltshire, England Head  Bradford  Wiltshire
Obed Kettlety 2  Bradford, Wiltshire, England Son  Bradford  Wiltshire
Peter Kettlety 4  Bradford, Wiltshire, England Son  Bradford  Wiltshire
William Kettlety 17  Bradford, Wiltshire, England Son  Bradford  Wiltshire

RG10/1925 Folio 40 Page 16

Albert was my grandfather.  He was the son of Worthy and father of Ada May and Kathleen Emily.
He died young and the girls were raised by grandparents.  He had an adopted brother Harry who was killed and buried in France.  Albert was also in the army but did not go overseas.
Harry was a detective constable and we would love to know where he came from and how he came to be a Kettlety..

Hi Marie my mother's name was Vera kettlety she was born january1914  in Cheltenham she was raised by her grandparents as both her parents died young. I understood she had two sisters but she never spoke of them I believe her father was Alfred kettlety. I know nothing of my history other than my mother left home early age and went into service at 28 she gave birth to me Pamela Mary kettlety in 1943 in London. Alfred's father according to recent information was worthy...her sister I am advised was Kathleen kettlety. Can anyone help me? Pam jarrett

Hi Pam,

On Ancestry.co.uk there is a family tree which ties in with the info you have listed;
Vera Dorothy Kettley born mar ¼ 1914 Cheltenham with mother's maiden name as Howley.
They only list one sibling Kathleen (1916-1962)

Father is Albert Kittley b. 1881 Claines, Worc d. 1923 Gloucs.- (s/o  Worthy 1848-1899 mother Elizabeth Clarke 1856- (Pershore, Worcs)
Mother is Rose Emily Howley b.1878 Cirencester d.1916 Charlton Kings, Gloucs - her parents are not listed.

Is this of any use - it seems to confirm the info you may already have.

Hi Alan  hey thanks for your input I am a novice computer user even the book computers for dummies was too advanced for me!!!on a more serious note i completed a winsley at war enquiry application as there are kettlety listed in action. Linda was so helpful found no link with soldiers so far but advised Kathleen kettlety was my mother's sister married a Malcom morrison it was to this end I was hopeful as I observed a Marie morrison providing much the same info as myself so are we related? If Kathleen was my mother's sister and became a morrison I am so longing to discover a relative with even further hope of a photo..aanything to which I can identify  my mother was strange in that she had completely detached herself from any family as a consequence I always longed for aunt's sisters or even cousins. So here I am 75 and no further advanced in my quest. As I say my birth name Pamela Mary kettlety does that suggest a Mary kettlety somewhere? I do hope Marie will see this and reply thanks .

Hi Pam,

Well I've been looking around for you and have found that Rose Howley married Albert Kettley in 1912 in the Cheltenham District (Vol; 6a, Page 577).
Rose Emily's  parents appear to have been William T Howley and Eliza per the 1891 census for
Much Birch, Herefordshire (she was only 2 and born Cirencester as were her parents).

In 1901 census  the family were in Hasfield, Gloucs and consists of;
Wm. T Howley aged 38 Carter
Elizabeth   "         "     37
Rose E      "         "     13
Alfred         "         "      9 born Birdlip
William T    "         "       4    "   Shirlington
Elsie           "         "       1    "    Birdlip

Rose Emily Howley was baptised 30-4-1889 in Stratton, Gloucs (d/o William Thomas & Eliza) Farm Labr.

Marriage;
10-4-1884 Withington, Gloucs.
William Thomas Howley, 21, bach, Labourer (s/o Henry Howley, Carter) to
Eliza Howley, 21, sp, (d/o Alfred Howley, Carter)

athGreat to hear from you.  My mother was Kathleen Emily, born in Cheltenham on Feb.17, 1916.  She had an older sister Ada May who married Gerry Crenol and lived in Burnham.  They had a daughter Susan who died about age 47.  My grandfather Albert died when my mother was 8.  Sorry but I'm no good at geneaology or computers.  Albert had an adopted brother who was killed in France in 1916 and was buried there.  He was a police detective constable, unmarried and no descendants.  Albert was in the army but did not go overseas.  My mother had one photo of him in uniform.  Don,t know where it went.  Hope this helps.
