Betty DRAPER

Looking for information on Betty Draper.  She had a son William Bryant Draper who was christened on 7 February 1805 at South Perrott, Dorset.  There is no father noted.  Any help appreciated.

As far as I know, William had 15 children, of which Elizabeth (Betty)  was the oldest born in 1831. What else do you need to know that I can help with?

It looks like William Bryant Draper was illegitimate - often an illegit child's middle name gives a clue as to who the father may have been

according to family trees on A******y (don't know how well sourced they are) William Bryant Draper was the son of Elizabeth (Betty) Draper & the Reverend William Bryant
It seems there was a daughter born to them and it looks unlikely William & Betty married
As you noted no father was on the birth record for William Bryant Draper
The parish record entry for his sister reads:
South Perrott Dorset
Baptism 6 Jun 1813 by Rev John Wills
Elizabeth Margaret daughter of William Bryant of Clapton occ Clergyman & Elizabeth Draper of South Perrott occupation Servant
so possibly Betty was his servant and William farthered 2 children with her.
Possibly Rev William Bryant was born c. 1767 and died 9 Sept 1815 S Perrott
His father was possibly a Clergyman too

Will try to find what happened to Betty

The illegitimate bit is a 'story' in our family so could be so. I haven't been able to prove or disprove it

If there is no father named on a baptism then the child would most likely be illigit - the baptism of Elizabeth Margaret named the father & mother but they lived in different places -it doesn't look like they married

Think this is Elizabeth (Betty) in 1841 and 1851

Susan Draper servant U 24 S Perrott
ELIZABETH DRAPER visitor W 70 S Perrott

Elizabeth describes herself as "widow" -but that could be for "decency"

Many thanks for all this. I am going to check against my family tree and go from there.
