GenList,

Do not bother about posting Frances's census " appearances". I have them.

And I know she was born at Spittle, near Whittonstall.

What I meant about the enumerator, was that it was POSSIBLE that "that" Frances Green or the grocer head of the household informed him ( no female enumerators until 1891) that she was born in Spittle, meaning the Whittonstall Spittle, but the Durham City enumerator, in his ignorance, thought it was the "other" Spittle (spelling later changed to Spittal) and so entered Berwick, of which Spittle was part.

But it only a madcap theory.

I will watch to see if and when you find "her".

Thanks Michael, yes I did get your supposition in your first email. It IS a possible as no-one has been able to find a definite for her on the 1851 census.

As she changed her age, place of birth and even her first name on her childs baptism entry, I cannot discount anything!

All the best

I've found her. She's with her elder brother James farmer and her little sister Mary Ann at Red House, Dissington NBL
