In 1927 4 Craignestock Street was listed as the address of Roses Homes Limited ... although what this was I haven't been able to trace yet.

Earlier you had the Great Hamilton Street Home, a model lodging house, situated on the corner of Great Hamilton Street and extending well into Craignestock Street.

Yes, my 1935 Post Office Street Directory shows the entry for 4 Craignestock Street to be 'Rose's Homes Ltd', and the Trades Directory lists Wm. Rose at 4 Craignestock Street under the entries for 'Lodgings'.   They also appear to have had at least three other lodgings in the City.

David.

I remember being told I would be sent to Rose's Home if I misbehaved!! so I gather it was an orphanage.

Hi there, I am new to this site. I have been for some time working on our family tree, and have had some trouble finding information on one side of my family. However I have recently found a post card addressed to my grandmother, as "CA Roses Homes, Craignestock St, London Rd. Glasgow" No year to be precise, but pre 1932, I'm guessing in the prior 10 years before that. I have done some further research and am too unsure of what exactly this place was. My grandmothers, mother was married a second time after losing her first husband very young. They had 7 children together, so I am wondering also if this place was some kind of orphanage/boarding house or similar....
