can anyone help me carry on my search of the woolstons as Ive come to a brickwall.
I have the 1891 census

islingword street

Ellen woolston  37    Sussex Brighton
Alice woolston  9       Sussex Brighton
Matilda woolston 1   Sussex Brighton
john woolston 37   woolendhall Stafford

also 1881 census

37 Apollo terr

john woolston 26  Stafford
Ellen woolston 26  Sussex Brighton
moses woolston 20 Stafford
Mary woolston 23
thomas woolston 1 Sussex Brighton

Ive search bmd,1837.ancestry etc, for Matilda birth cert, and Alice,and thomas
and found nothing,then started to look for marriages and come up with nothing.have i hit a brick wall or am i looking in wrong place

would appreciate any help

Dont forget that FreeBMD isnt complete - have you trawled original GRO Indices in Ancestry?

(ah - see you mention 1837[onlin], so guess so !)

Possible mistran then ....

Looks like more than one Family of Woolstons were active in Brighton in that period ....

cant see John W in 1871 - and only 66 Ellens born Brighton to chose from !

thanks for the help,scroppers and tati.definitely back on track now,looks like the surname change over the years.not many people with the name moses them days.try and get his marriage cert to get going again
