Alderney - Wells
« on: Wednesday 03 November 04 15:16 GMT (UK) »
Hi, from the 1901 census I have traced my gggfathers family to Alderney. He had two sons Charles (48 in 1901) and Joseph(45) and a daughter Sarah(44) all born on Alderney. His wife was Elizabeth who was 74 in 1901 and was born in Guernsey. By 1901 the family had left Alderney, Charles had moved to London with his mother, Joseph had moved to Jersey and Sarah to a village near Bath. I hope this is enough information to trace my gggfather from earlier census. Any help much appreciated

Hi Nicky, thankyou so much for the info, as Sarah did not show on your list do you think my assumption that she was a sister of the others was inaccurate??? Are earlier census available to try to find Elizabeth's husband?

Hello Len,

While at the archive centre today and looking  at the 1851 census   I noted a Wells family living at 39 Victoria Rd St Peter Port.
Is there a possibility that the family lived in Guernsey at an earlier date with  other children?

Joseph Wells head age 24, labourer in a wine store
Elizabeth wife age 24 (right age for your Elizabeth)
Elizabeth H dau age 3
Catherine M dau age 5 mts

If this is of interest to you and you would like me to obtain additional information I will be happy to do so.

The 1861 census is not indexed so I was not able to check this out  at the moment.
Best Wishes
