STACE / WOODCOCK of Bishops Stortford

I have a William Frederick STACE (b. c1824) who married Sarah WOODCOCK (a servant) in Bishops Stortford in 1844.  He was a tanner at that time, but by the time of his son Arthur Henry STACE's birth in 1847, he was describing himself as a groom and by 1868 he had become a gardener.  They lived in Hadham Road, Bishops Stortford.  Does this tie in with anyone's research?

This is splendid.  Thanks.  Definitely the right family.  My ancestor (my great great great grandmother) is Sarah Woodcock (b. 1824), who is on your website.  She married Arthur Frederick Stace (b.1823) in Bishops Stortford on 9 June 1844.  Your ancestor Joseph Woodcock and their sister Mary Ann Woodcock witnessed the marriage.  Do let me know if you are interested in the rest of the Stace family tree (I have traced them back to the 1750s in Epping, Essex) and forward to my own day (my maternal grandmother was a Stace).

Ah, I think I know how you are connected, then. I have Laura Jane Stace (m. William Sidney Williams), their son Augustus Sidney, b. 1898 and his two daughters. I've pushed the Stace line further back since I posted this post - back to John Stace and Ann Mason (both b. c. 1675). My ancestor, William Frederick Stace, was born in Epping in 1823, but married in Bishops Stortford and probably died in Brixton, Surrey.

Yes you are on the right track. There were 5 children of Laura's [Williams Nee Stace], Sidney Augustus, Arnold, Cyril Baden my father who preferred to be known as Baden Cyril throughout his life.
All three sons were married and had children. The two sisters, Hetha died when she was only 7 years. Then there was Mona who never married.
I am the only grandson of Laura the others being girls. All Laura's grandchildren are still alive as far as I know except my cousin Valerie, Sid's daughter. Sadly Laura Died in 1940, I was born 1947 but my elder and only sister knew her quite well. My father was Laura's favourite by all accounts.
I am in contact with a distant cousin at Christmas time and that is about all.

Augustus Sidney Williams was my grandfather, I'm currently researching my ancestry and thought it was time to join this site and post a reply. I'm hoping to uncover what my grandfather went through during WW1. I'm hopeful that his military record still exists, even though many were destroyed by German bombing in 1940.

I've also been researching the Stace family tree. Rod is actually a cousin of my mother. Hi Rod.
