C1841 Ryhope, Holikside 313/2 6-6
With John Anderson, farmer.....
Mathew Newby 15* ag Lab ( "yes" to Born in this county question)

C1841 ages rounded down to lower 5 unit of years ( so Mathew could have offered his age as 15, 16, 17, 18 or 19)

C1841 Easington Village -East side. 313/2 6-6
Simon Nueby 40 ag lab yes
Hannah 40 yes
Margaret 10 yes
Jane 7 yes
Frances 3 yes
Ann 1 yes.

DurhamRecordsOnline has Elizabeth baptised by Simon/Hannah in 1828 in Easington district.

There are 3 similar aged "Elizabeth Newby" on C1841, Brandom, Trimdon, and Durham City... but last two are within what look like family groups, leaving...

C1841 Sleet Burn Houses, Brandon 308/2  5-5

Elizabeth Newby 13... occupation entered then deleted... others ag labs.   "yes" b. in this county.,

Hello , Colleen ,

Found a marriage for a Simon Newby and a Hannah Hodgson in Easington .26/12/1818..

Also found this family on the 41 with 7 children  , ages ranging from 10 down to 1... but neither Matthew nor Elizabeth are listed ....????

This was the only Simon there was...

Joyce,

I had previously  posted the family set-up on C1841 of a Simon and Hannah and children in Easington, together with census page reference>

The name looked like Nueby rather than Newby.

Do you think this is NOT the same Simon and Hannah Newby ?. Do you think there were two couple Simon/Hannah in Easington  ?

Sorry , Michael , hadn't scrolled down , a "senior moment " methinks !!!!!

I would say that there is definitely only one Simon in Easington on the 41 , very few of them elsewhere , either .

I saw that it was spelled Nueby...saw that it didn't include Matthew and Elizabeth but reckoned , giving their age , they were in employment . You found them elsewhere.....

I haven't found Matthew's baptism but I see that you found Elizabeth with parents Simon and Hannah...

                           Regards ,
                                      Joyce

Have we been in touch recently about Gallaghers Co Sligo ???

Thankyou all for your help with this one.
I too can not find Matthews baptism, and couldnt find Elizabeths so thank you for finding hers.
I thought they were more than one matthew newby in the Easington area, but not sure which one to go with.

I think Hannah Hodgson is the wife though.

Again, thankyou
