Searchable Massachusetts Death Indexes, 1841-1930
« on: Friday 01 September 06 17:38 BST (UK) »
Greetings one and all: Good for confirming--or even finding--the location of where someone passed on.

Massachusetts Death Indexes, 1841-1910

From the Mass. State Archives web page: “The Massachusetts Archives holds Massachusetts vital records covering the years 1841-1915.... The information from the 1841-1910 death indices has been entered into a searchable database. We welcome you to utilize this database to find the citations for the death records you are researching.

“Each index entry will include the person's first and last name, the town or city where the event occurred, the year, volume number, and page number. The database is searchable by first and last names, year, and location.”

I couldn’t put it any better myself. Here’s an example of what you get (one of my 2great grandfathers, the one who died 1908).

Last Name      First Name   Town         Years   Volume   Page   Type
Houston                James      Lawrence   1901      516      508       Death
Houston                James      Lawrence   1908      51       179         Death

Oh, yes, the all-important URL: http://www.sec.state.ma.us/arc/arcsrch/VitalRecordsSearchContents.html

Again, after reading the Introduction, you scroll down to the bottom of the page for blue-tinted Search.
