1901 and 1911 Cork look up pls COAKLEY Family
« on: Sunday 10 September 06 23:14 BST (UK) »
Hello

I wonder if anyone could look up in the 1901 and 1911 census a family living in Skibbereen (possibly in a place called Lakelands) by the name of COAKLEY.  I know this may be a long shot but the residents could include

Mary Ellen Coakley
Bridget Coakley
Cornelius Coakley
Dennis Twomey
Mary Twomey (Dennis' wife)

Many thanks for your help.
Regards
Emma

Hi emgen

This looks like them in 1911 Census

Link to 1911 Census Gortnaclohy

If you click on above link and the click of Household Return (Form A) in blue you will see the original census page.

It appears that Mary E Coakley and Bridget A Coakley are grandchildren of Mary Twomey who is a widow.

I have found the birth for a Patrick Twomey on 19-Feb-1866 Skibbereen son of Denis Twomey and Mary Collins so this may well be you family. Ages in the census are often a few years off.

There is also a John Twomey born 31st Mar 1874 son of Denis Twomey and Mary Collins.

Jeremiah Twomey born 17th Jul 1872 son of Denis Twomey and Mary Collins.

Bridget Twomey born 30 Jan 1864 Skibbereen daughter of Denis Twomey and Mary Collins.

There is a Patrick Towmey in Griffiths Valuation taken around 1851. Griffiths was a list of heads of household which held/rented land/property.

Would be likely that Denis Twomey was a son of this Patrick Twomey in Griffiths but cant be 100% sure of that without further research.

It appears Mary Twomey married John Coakley in 1890 in Skibbereen.

You could order the marriage certificate at http://www.groireland.ie/

When applying for the certficate give them the following information

John Coakley and Mary Twomey Skibbereen Registration District Jan-Mar 1890 Volume 5 Page 439.

Given them this information really helps the search and makes sure you get correct marriage.

Also found the death of Mary Coakley born 1865 died 1901 in Skibbereen so looks like she died having Bridget A Coakley who is in the census.

Hi Ger

Thanks so much for the reply and for the information you have given.  This has helped us a great deal and cannot thank you enough.

We can now order the marriage certificate with the references that you have given which is great and will help us further with our research.

Just out interest, was there a specific place that you looked for the marriage/death  details which enabled you to get the registration numbers?

Many thanks again for your kind help.
Best regards
Emgen

you can search an index to Irish Civil registrations on this familysearch website : http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=2;t=searchable;c=1408347
