Irish Occupations
« on: Monday 11 September 06 11:38 UTC (UK) »

The Police site was of great interest to me as I found detailed information about my grandfather who was with the DMP for over twenty years. Now I cannot find it as someone else has American police forces on it. Has it been taken off for some reason?

Regards.

Hello Pimms,

I'm not certain which site you mean. I don't see why a site about the Police in Ireland would be removed. If you could give a link to the one you've found and describe the one where you got the information about your grandfather I'm sure someone will be able to assist you.

Those are great sites Anne but they don't appear to solve the mystery of the missing one on which Pimms grandfather appeared. Pimms asked a simple question in September and has not been online since early November. I'm sorry I did not notice this question at the time.

I've found the Roll of Honour for the Dublin Metropolitan Police and former constituent forces. I did a search RootsChat and was surprised it couldn't be found as I'm sure several members have mentioned the DMP. There should be a few grandfathers of members and potential members of Rootschat on the list. BTW The D.M.P. was a United Kingdom police force until the independence of Southern Ireland in 1922.

I thought, despite the fact that the poster has not been online recently, it was worth attempting to find the site where the grandfather was found. It's not much good looking for a member of the DMP on a site about police in America unless the DMP guy emigrated.

I realise you know the history of Ireland and the UK, like I do, Anne but I thought I should mention the matter as there are people across the sheugh, and further afield, who really haven't a clue about the UK. They will insist on calling GB the UK. I mentioned this to a person who works for an international organisation producing a magazine which homeless people sell to earn some money. Their website refers to the UK when it only covers GB so they may be making an alteration to their website Cool

In the early 1800s a new civil engineering company - Henry, Mullins & amp; Mc Mahon - was formed in Ireland by the association of a number of smaller firms so that a bid could be submitted for the contract for the entire western end of the Royal Canal from Mullingar to Richmond Harbour.
