Where are Edith Barker and William Greaves?
« on: Saturday 16 September 06 16:55 BST (UK) »
I have the marriage certificate of William Greaves and Edith Barker - they married 13th February, 1919 Bothamsall. His occupation is Soldier and his father is also called William (deceased) Ediths father is Charles (Labourer). Witnesses are W Philpott and C Barker.

On the certificate Wiliam's age is 26 and Ediths is 20. However, the closest candidate I've found for Edith on the 1901 census is born c1890. Could the age on the certificate be the registrar misreading the original entry of age, or a deliberate attempt by Edith to appear younger than her husband rather than older?

Can anyone find likely candidates for William and Edith (I've spent ages looking with no success!)

Thanks
Catherine  :)

If Edith was a little younger than she clamed to be in 1919, she may have been born after the 1901 census...

I was thinking more along the lines of her being maybe 29ish, ie; older than William, theres an Edith Barker in Mansfield Notts (siblings born in Bothamsall) at the time of the time of the 1901 census who would fit perfectly if she was ten years younger - 1 instead of 11  :-\

Edith was my sons great grandma (my ex's grandma) and only died in 2000 when she was 101! Her date of birth according to her death registration was 23/10/1898 but there are a few birth registrations around this time to choose from :-\

I think the only thing to do is pay extra and ask the registrar to look for the birth of an Edith Greaves on that date.

Thankyou for looking, but I dont think they're the right ones. I've been told they originally came from the Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire area. Also Charles was a Labourer on Ediths birth certificate, so I'm not sure that a Baker would change profession to become a labourer (I think that William also came from the same area, though not 100% sure) :-\

I'd hoped to avoid having to get the birth certificate of someone "within living memory", but looks like its the only way, if they cant be found on the 1901 census  :-\

Thanks you for looking
Best Wishes
Catherine

Hi CatOne

I noticed your request re info on Edith Barker, I realise that you put this online sometime ago.
I am looking to find Edith Irene Barker (my paternal grandmother) she gave birth to my father in 1916 in Ecclesall Bierlow, I am unsure but someone mentioned a surname of Green or could be Greaves.   Do you have any futher info on your Edith Barker.

Many thanks

Hi,

No, I have no further info on my Edith Barker unfortunately. I got distracted on other branches of the family as I came to a brickwall with this line, although I may look into it again now that the 1911 census is online.

Regards
Cat  :)

Hi Cat

Thanks for the reply.  I had the same problem with my Edith Barker, also got distracted along the way as found a brick wall with Edith.
Anyhow, will give a little background in the hope that something may come up in the future.
Edith Irene Barker,
Gave birth to my father, Frank Brownlow Barker on 17th June 1916, Edith was unmarried and did not marry the father, Frank Brownlow Senior.
Edith gave birth to my dad at 194 Gleadless Road, Ecclesall Bierlow, I have no parents names and Edith was listed as a domestic servant.
Many thanks for responding if I come up with anything I will let you know.  I do have a couple of birth certificates for Edith, not sure if they are the right ones. Also a marriage certificate for Edith Barker to William Green.
Thanks again
Kind regards Cathy
