WW2 Where did my Dad serve?
« on: Wednesday 20 September 06 02:17 BST (UK) »
My Dad Samuel Bertrand born 1922 according to Mum and Dad's marriage cert was a Driver with RASC his service number was T16663124 and lived in Hackney.  I'm afraid he died when I was 9 but I would love to know where he was posted whilst in the Army.  I remember talk of maybe Tunisia and also that the boat he was on was torpedoed and that he was pulled out of the water by rope, upside down by an ankle.

I would be grateful if anyone could tell me or point me in the right direction for any information.

Thanks Bertie1 (June)

Hi June

I'm not sure if they are currently charging next of kin and there is a wait of serveral months but you can apply for his service record

Hi
I used the new Freedom of info Act, you may then get his service records for free, if not you will have to pay £30GBP for them.
