Ardgowan Street in 1911 + and/or -
« on: Sunday 24 September 06 14:17 BST (UK) »
I am looking for a James and Jessie McKenzie who may have been living at 14 Ardgowan Street, Port Glasgow before 1911.  They were deceased by July 1911 but is there any way they can found in any directories or anything before this time please?  Or who was livivng there before 1911?

Many thanks

Have you tried the Scotlands people site at
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/index.aspx

Its a pay site (£6 for 30 credits) but you would gain access to the 1901 census and death records in scotland upto 1955

In the 1901 census there are 3 entries for James McKenzie .... ages 15, 22 and 52

Not much to go on, but the only James on Ardgowan appears in the 1895 Valuations at No 35.  I do not see him on Ardgowan in any of Census post 1891.

There is a Jessie in the 1891 Census at No. 81 Ardgowan but her husband is not listed.

Suggest you invest some coin at Scotland's People.  Perhaps the children of Jessie's match the family you seek.

There is a James McKenzie living at 8 Springhill in the 1905 valuations for Port-Glasgow. It might be a good idea as someone else suggested to buy some Scotlandspeople credits. You will then be able to find the deaths for James and Jessie and also information about their parents (names and maiden names of their mothers) as well as cause of death and the names of the informant.  There is a wealth of information to be gleaned from this site.
