Indians in England
« on: Wednesday 27 September 06 08:06 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I have been informaed that many Indian servants were brought over to England to look after the wealthy.
Does anyone know where they would have settled? Were there and in Nottingham or the East Midlands?
Also I have heard this was from the 1600's to the 1700's is this correct?

http://www.fathom.com/course/21701766/session1.html - here's a good site.

If you check the original parish records for the area/family, sometimes people are labelled as 'Indian'.  You might also try and work out if there was a likely employer in the area at that time - someone returned from India would be the most likely suspect.
