Wells Walditch/Bridport/Bradpole
« on: Sunday 07 November 04 18:15 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find earliest Wells and have worked back and obtained marriage cert for George Wells & Hannah Clark Norman Oct. 31, 1842 in "Parish Church" Parish of Bradpole.  1851 Census shows George Wells b 1823 with Ann b1825,  Esther b.1827, Ann b. 1843, Frederick b. 1848, John b. 1845 and Thomas G. 11mo
Hannah, Anna and Ann are variants of the same name.
baptismal records show  George Wells s.o. Thomas & Betty  23 Feb 1823 and Hester Wells d.o. Thomas & Elizabeth 8 Oct 1826  I believe Hester and Esther are same person and therefore Esther is living with brother George and his wife Ann.
There are two Thomas Wells married to Elizabeths
1803 Marriage Thomas Wells & Elizabeth Gudge both of this Parish Mar 23
1805 Marriage Thomas Wells & Elizabeth Hodgill both of this Parish Jan 08
Question 1. What is/was the relationship between Bradpole, Bridport and Walditch
Question 2. How best to get more details of Thomas Wells
Thankyou in advance
Ray Wells

Hi Ray,

to question 1)
Quote
Bradpole is a parish partly within the borough of Bridport and 5 miles south from Beaminster. The church of the Holy Trinity is in the Early English style and consists of a chancel, nave, north aisle, tower & spire. There is no manor. The workhouse for Bridport Union is within this parish. The chief crops are wheat, oats and grass. The population in 1871 was 1,549. There is a National School.
source: Dorset OPC site: http://www.dorset-opc.com/ ,
under Bradpole: http://www.dorset-opc.com/Bradpole.htm

Bridport also has a page there: http://www.dorset-opc.com/Bridport&Allington.htm
but Walditch only has some marriage records: http://www.dorset-opc.com/WalditchMarriages.htm

This site is well worth visiting, if you haven't already done so.
The search engine is very good (use: "Search ALL words") for combinations of data.

I hope, if you search the site, this will also help for question 2)
