Widow's name
« on: Sunday 07 November 04 20:54 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

Being fairly new to this game - could anyone help me ?

I have received a copy of the parish records for a marriage in 1799              It states the womens name and says she was a widow - I presume this will be her previous husband's name - not her maiden name??  Does that make sense??
I wanted to find her family but don't know what to do now!!

Anyone help??
Cheers Keith

Keith

Yes it will be her married name (though nothing is guaranteed in this game!)

Suggest you post some more specific details of names, places, dates etc on Rootschat and see what you get back.

Good luck

You may find her first husbands death was in the same parish, also her marriage to him which would lead you to her maiden name.

Hi,

Have only just found this site - been away for 5 mins and have 3 replies!!
Great - thanks - the register reads as follows:-

William Bateman of the Parish of Stanstead (then something like"Tmill" - presume its "Abbots") and Jane Almany of this Parish - Widow - were married in this Church by License - 23rd March 1799.

The Church is at Great Amwell, Herts - where the Batemans came from later together with Ware - these place are all a couple of miles apart.
Have not found any other Almany ever born - but the name Albany appears close by - have not tried the marriages for her 1st husband - thanks that may help -only just received copy - so did not know she was widow!!

Cheers
Keith
