1861 Census Look up
« on: Sunday 07 November 04 22:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi

i'm looking for the Salkind family. I believe that they might be living in Norwell in Norfolk - which i believe is part of Norwich.

This is the family in the 1851 cenus, they are no longer at this address.

Z/11/198/TOOLEY STREET/
J/SIMON/SALKIND/HEAD/MAR/49//FURNITURE BROKER & GENERAL DEALER/MDX/LONDON/
J/HANNAH/SALKIND/W/MAR//35////POLAND/POL/
J/HARRIET/SALKIND/D/U//13/SCHOOL TEACHER/NFK/NORWICH/
J/SOLOMON/SALKIND/SON//12//SCHOLAR/NFK/NORTH WALSHAM/
J/ESTHER/SALKIND/D///10/SCHOLAR/NFK/NORTH WALSHAM/
J/SAUL/SALKIND/SON//8//SCHOLAR/NFK/NORTH WALSHAM/
J/SAMUEL/SALKIND/SON//6//SCHOLAR/NFK/NORTH WALSHAM/
J/DAVID/SALKIND/SON//5//SCHOLAR/NFK/NORWICH/
J/REBECCA/SALKIND/D///1//NFK/NORWICH/

There would be a few more children including Dinah Rachel born in 1858 Norwich and maybe Amelia Frances born in 1860/61 in Norwell.

thank you very much
Tara

Hi Again, Norwell wasn't a familiar norfolk name to me so I checked the index on the 1861 and couldn't find it so I had a look on the map and still couldn't find it but I did find a Norwell in Nottingham could that be where she was born. I am afraid I don't have the census for Nottinghamshire so maybe if you post on the nottingham board some one may be able to help you there. If you find that Norwell is definetly a place in Norfolk and can give me a different place name I will gladly have a look ok. All the best Anjo

Hi Anjo

thanks for replying, sorry for not answering earlier - i didn't seem to get an email notification ???

A while ago i also tried looking for norwell in norfolk but also only came up with Nottingham, but thought maybe someone who knew the area might have heard of it.

Amelia Frances Salkind is a bit mysterious. In 1881 she is 23, in 1891 she is 30 and in 1901 she is 30 again!! I believe that she was 30 in 1891 so making her born in about 1860/61.

In 1881 she states her birthplace as Norfold, Norwich. Does this place sound familiar to you?? If so and if it is not too big an area could you kindly have a look for the family??

thank you very much

Hi I think norfold is a typo and should be Norfolk!!
Norwich is a big area to search. do you have a baptism for Amelia if I knew the parish it would be easier. Anjo

Hi Anjo

thanks once again for all your help. This family is very annoying and i understand that without a parish it is very hard for you to look for them. I may have to wait a few more months for ancestry to release norfolk 1871 which i have been waiting for for quite a while now.  :(

with regards to a place called Norfold - she states her birth as "Norfold, Norwich, Norfolk"?? not quite sure what that means?

anyway back to the drawing board  ::)
thanks for all your help
